The painting shown here is dedicated to and is entitled "The Heroes of Mogadishu." It serves as a lasting and powerful reminder of the selfless service that these heroes epitomized. The painting depicts two U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopters in flight over the village. The American flag, folded in the traditional manner, is positioned in the center of the painting, in recognition of the sacrifices made in the battle of October 3-4 1993. The Medal of Honor is also displayed prominently in the painting to represent the extremely valiant manner in which Task Force Ranger acquitted itself during this battle. Two medals of Honor were awarded as a result of this action. The names of all the heroes who gave their lives in this battle are listed at the bottom of the limited edition print that was donated to the Matthew L. Rierson Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund. The fund encourages family members to emulate the same nobel dedication, integrity, and achievement levels as their parents. It was my honor to create such a powerful, emotional painting for a great cause.
